June 16th, 2009 is a day for the record books. Jesse James officially broke the hydrogen land speed record in the West Coast Choppers-built, totally green, emission-free, hydrogen car. With some technological know how and equipment from his pals at Quantum Technologies, he was able to rocket the streamliner to 199mph and some change.
And while it was sunny and warm for the most part at El Mirage, it was probably a sad, cold day at the BMW shop in Germany where lots of tense little engineers in white lab coats with clip boards were probably pacing and wringing their hands. Maybe if they stripped a few layers of show wax off that car they could could up their speed by a digit or two. Or maybe add some flames to their paint job, or use an American made big block…dunno, just a few suggestions. But if you want to catch the whole story, and see the record stomping run, be sure to catch the season finale of Jesse James is a Dead Man on SPIKE on August 9th.
